Why you Need a Fisheye, Why I didn’t Answer this Weekend | A Memorial Day Weekend on the Gulf Coast

So I am striving to take more video. I love pictures and am so much more comfortable taking, editing, storing, and displaying them – videos take time to put together and honestly this day in age I am not even sure how to store them, watch them, etc. My MacPro has no dvd drive at all now soooo I am working on that part. Pictures are beautiful still glimpses into life but I know one day I will want to look back and here their sweet pre-puberty voices, see them move their sweet little baby bodies, and see us laugh together so I am using my drone and the need to learn it better as my excuse too. I am doing lots of video with that and starting to use video on my camera more as well. I could tinker with this video all day but I won’t. Soooooo here is our Memorial Day Weekend in a 12 minute video (drone, still, Mark III video, and more).

Why do I say you need a fisheye? Because you can take it everywhere (its short and lightweight) and you can get all the action. Most of all, you can actually hold it out and be in the picture lol! Mom’s we need to stop taking so many pictures and be in them or, with a fisheye…both! Is it ideal? Nope but it works and I can play with the kids and get the interaction at the same time. For instance…..(yeah its not 100% in focus but you get the picture yeah?)

And lastly, I am trying to have more non office hours. I used to answer my phone, email, texts anytime of the day or night, weekend or not. Its not fair for my kids. I want to hang out with them and focus on them and not worry about whether I have checked my email in the last 15 minutes. The problem is switching over. I have been so accessible for so long that if I get an email or message at 9 am on Sunday morning and don’t answer it right away I am getting a follow up 30 minutes later. Did you get my message? Etc. I still check often and handle the things that need to be handled (for instance, if you purchase something from the store and are having issues I know you probably sat down to use the product so I do try to help out quickly) but things that can wait, I really am trying to put off. I still edit on the weekends if the kids lay down and I am still super quick. I don’t think any of my clients this year have had to wait more than 2-7 days to see their images. I want to provide awesome customer service but I also want to be available to my kids without interruption sometimes. Because their childhood is something I treasure-I want them to live it the fullest and I want to be there now and in their memories of it:)A few images from our Memorial Day Weekend….(oh and people ask me all the time if I edit my family images just as I do my client’s – absolutely – they are just as important to me and I love being able to hang our casual art on the walls – everything I do editing and shooting wise is now available as a virtual/online workshop HERE). Have a great week!

And as much as I tried to keep the blue in originally (the RAW has blue but after editing I just lost a lot of it) I plugged in the starry night.psd from the Summer Love Collection – so much flipping fun! Fireworks by Kansas Pitts PhotographyCool Sparkler Pictures by Kansas Pitts PhotographyMemorialDayWeekend-106-105MemorialDayWeekend-107-106Bote Boards by Kansas Pitts PhotographyWaves

OMG! You know I stalk you all the time. I have missed though if you’ve mentioned what type of go pro you have. We have one and our images are nowhere near as clear as yours and it’s so hard to know what I’ve even taken a picture of since there’s no LCD. Maybe it’s because ours is the Hero 2 and we got it when it first come out years ago. We do take it to the beach and underwater(which is another issue because of how water will puddle onto the lens in bubbles; annoying!) and get some pretty good video but stills are another story. :) My hubby has a drone but no video camera on it. I am scared of that thing though and not sure I would trust putting a camera on it.

Anywho love your work and your dedication to family. I am making that move now too. Have a great week.ReplyCancel

Oh okay! OMG! SO you put your camera on the drone or is it one that came on the drone already? I’d love to have a fisheye lens. How are you getting in the pictures holding the camera?ReplyCancel

        • kansas - June 1, 2015 - 6:51 pm

It came with one – thats the main difference between most of the drones is what kind of camera. The drones that can hold a pro camera are upwards of $20k so thats not an option ;-) Just face it towards you with one hand!ReplyCancel
